UUIDs follow the format 8-4-4-4-12 hexadecimal digits (e.g., 550e8400-e29b-41d4-a716-446655440000). This tool uses the Web Crypto API for cryptographically secure random number generation, ensuring high-quality entropy for production use in database primary keys, session tokens, and distributed system identifiers.

ULIDs (Universally Unique Lexicographically Sortable Identifiers) offer an alternative that combines time-based ordering with randomness. Unlike UUIDs, ULIDs are sortable by creation time, making them ideal for database indexes and time-series data. They use 48 bits for timestamps (millisecond precision until year 10889) and 80 bits of randomness, encoded in Crockford's base32 for better readability.

Common use cases: Database primary keys, API request IDs, session tokens, file naming in distributed storage systems, message queue identifiers, and microservice transaction tracking. Both formats are widely supported across programming languages and databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and DynamoDB.
